The Lotus Pavilion was designed as an area for employees, patients, and visitors to gather and rest. From beneath looking up it appears as a canopy of leaves that interlock to provide shade and cover, but as the sun moves across the sky a shadow of a lotus is revealed on the earth. The lotus is symbolic of strength, purity, and rebirth. Not unlike the cast shadow, the lotus is a day-blooming flower that opens in the sun and submerges at night to be reborn again at dawn.
The resilience of the lotus to blossom knowing it will withdraw at dusk, a white beacon in the mirkiest of waters, is the embodiment of hope. Lotus Pavilion, true to its namesake, seeks to find beauty in the ephemeral nature of today and peace in knowing that a tomorrow will come.
